The Library of Fritz Brandtner

When Fritz Brandtner (1896-1969) immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1928, he was already an accomplished artist influenced by Modernism and Expressionism. The exhibition presents a selection from his library, which consists of 172 books, exhibition catalogues, periodicals, notebooks and binders of teaching materials. The books are annotated throughout with notes, marginalia and original sketches, and many volumes have decorative wrappers created by the artist.
