Showcasing the artists on the 2021 Sobey Art Award shortlist, this year’s exhibition features thought-provoking works by Laakkuluk Williamson Bathory (Prairies and North), Lorna Bauer (Quebec), Rémi Belliveau (Atlantic), Gabi Dao (West Coast and Yukon), and Rajni Perera (Ontario).
Visitors will be transported into the worlds of these artists from five distinct regions of Canada, each offering new ways of seeing, thinking and being. Rooted in personal experience and a wide range of issues and concerns, the work of this year’s finalists reflects not only their diverse backgrounds, but art practices involving everything from film and performance to painting, installation and photography.
The 2021 Sobey Art Award winner will be announced in November. A special complimentary publication on the five finalists will be available to all on-site visitors.
Organized by the National Gallery of Canada and the Sobey Art Foundation.
