Michael Semak
Don't miss the Michael Semak exhibition on view this summer and fall. The exhibition reviews the early career of Toronto area photographer Michael Semak, and the various projects he undertook during the 1960s and 1970s. Many of the photographs were taken on assignment for the National Film Board Still Photography Division and are held in the collection of the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography. Semak's photographs of communities, youths and the elderly, socially marginalized groups, and his travel experiences are intense visual expressions that combine documentary modes of presentation with a strongly subjective approach. They often depict not only a scene or moment of action, but also a sense of urgency. Semak's photographs comment, question, and disturb. Most importantly, they are intended to provoke viewers to look at the world in new ways. Organized by the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography.
