Masterpiece in Focus. Related Works: Ron Moppett and Damian Moppett

As part of our ongoing Masterpiece in Focus series, this exhibition examines the production of two talented – and related – artists who have pursued singular trajectories to become, each in their own right, established figures in the Canadian art world. The work of painter Ron Moppett, and his son, multidisciplinary artist Damian Moppett, intersect and diverge in intriguing ways, and along generational lines. Taken together, their work offers visitors original perspectives on the meaning and contemporary relevance of that pivotal space from where painting, sculpture and drawing emerges: the studio. This exhibition highlights the artists’ respective aesthetic approaches, while also reflecting on the importance of patronage in curatorial research and in the development of the national collection.
