Alex Colville
Alex Colville offers a fresh perspective on the work of one of Canada’s most celebrated artists. A creative thinker, deeply engaged with both his local surroundings and the broader world, Colville’s painting developed in dialogue with film and literature, philosophy, law and history. The exhibition surveys the breadth of his practice and includes nearly a hundred paintings alongside early student works and selected prints and drawings. Incorporating a unique thematic approach, this unprecedented exhibition includes pairings with filmmakers, authors, artists, graphic novelists and composers. Alex Colville celebrates the artist’s legacy and attests to the continued relevance of his work.
Organized by the Art Gallery of Ontario with the generous collaboration of the National Gallery of Canada.
