Conundrums, Crises and Threats: Contemporary Curating

Join Séamus Kealy, Director of the Salzburger Kunstverein in Austria – and International Juror for the 2018 Sobey Art Award – for a lecture on his experiences as an artist, writer, contemporary art curator, and Museum Director. Kealy is known internationally for his collaborative and innovative style of curating and museum management, and has worked closely with a wealth of artists including Stan Douglas, Geoffrey Farmer, Omer Fast, and Ilya and Emilia Kabakov.

In this lecture, Kealy will discuss a range of projects, while also touching upon a few more challenging situations, during which his commitment to his chosen profession was tested by institutional conundrums, economic and socio-political crises, and even personal threats.

In English with simultaneous French interpretation.

Free admission. Seats in the Lecture Hall will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Organized by the National Gallery of Canada and the Sobey Art Foundation.
