Join us for a screening of the film Joan Mitchell, une femme dans l’abstraction in conjunction with the exhibition Riopelle: Crossroads in Time.
Joan Mitchell was one of the greatest American abstract painters of the post-war period, and was one of the few women to make her mark in the male-dominated art world of the time, winning acclaim in both Europe and North America. After moving to France from New York City in the late 1950s, she had a passionate and tumultuous long-term love affair with artist Jean Paul Riopelle. She died in Paris in 1992, at the age of sixty-seven.
