Family Tour with the Curator of Nick Sikkuark: Humour and Horror

Monday, February 19, 2024
1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. EST
National Gallery of Canada Special Exhibitions Galleries (Level 2)
380 Sussex Drive
Ottawa, ON K1N 9N4

Nick Sikkuark’s creations are characterized by a harmonious blending of seemingly opposing elements – naturalism and imagination, the everyday and the bizarre, miniaturization and amplification, and most essentially, humour and horror.

A fascinating part of his art is that we can discover the same creatures, story elements and iconography throughout, leaving us with a sense of wonder as to where they will turn up next.

This special tour is co-hosted by exhibition curator Christine Lalonde and author David Pelly, who will introduce you to Nick Sikkuark’s unique vision. As you explore the artist’s inventive storytelling in sculpture, caricature, portraiture and landscape, you will begin to see the world around you in a whole new way.

Free with admission. Drop-in activity. No registration needed.
In English, followed by a bilingual question period and a book signing in the Boutique.
Meet outside exhibition doors.
