Unlock the power of your subconscious mind as you celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first Surrealist Manifesto.

Join us for a Surrealist-themed evening, presented in partnership with the Embassy of France in Canada. This event includes a sonic dancehall experience featuring films by Man Ray and music by DJ Memetic, artmaking, tours, and cocktails — all inspired by the artistic movement led by French poet André Breton. Round out the night with a viewing of the unconventional 2024 “real-fake biopic” Daaaaaalí!.

Brief moments of nudity and several instances of strobing light appear in the Man Ray films projected in the Scotiabank Great Hall.

 

Kwende Kefentse

Kwende Kefentse is Ottawa's own cultural, urban, and music-industry leader. Kefentse is best known, locally and internationally, as producer and performer DJ Memetic, host and Creative Director of TIMEKODE, one of Canada’s most established independent club nights. He has also served as the Executive Director of CKCU, Ottawa’s original independent non-profit campus-community broadcaster, and currently serves on numerous boards focusing on diversity, music, film and the visual arts. As a performer, DJ Memetic's sets and productions are known for transporting listeners and dance floors through time and space, whether it's the city jumping TIMEKODE 10-inch vinyl series, or his renowned local bus route soundtrack RIDEAU2RICHMOND. His solo productions and remixes have received critical acclaim, and he has been the opening performer for American rapper Nas and played for former U.S. President Barack Obama and former Governor General Michaëlle Jean.
