This year’s Contemporary Conversations is launching on November 30th by welcoming back American photographer Stephen Wilkes. For the sesquicentennial of Canada’s Confederation, Wilkes recorded the official festivities surrounding Canada Day 2017 in Ottawa in a single image. Using his unique "Day to Night" artistic vision and technique, the artist has created a work that displays the jubilation over 18 continuous hours of this year’s July First celebrations.

Learn more about Wilkes' approach and attend the public unveiling of his work as part of this conversation with Marc Mayer, Director and CEO of the National Gallery of Canada.

Wilke’s commissioned work is presented by the Embassy of the United States in Ottawa to commemorate Canada’s 150th anniversary.
