Biographical sketch

Ingrid Monika Haase was born in September 1940 in Berlin-Charlottenburg, Germany, the elder of two daughters of Siegfried Haase (1916-1996) and Hedwig Maria Haase (née Doering) (1916-1984). In July 1952, after spending several years in Wiesbaden, Germany, Ingrid immigrated with her family to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, where her father found employment as a graphic artist with Eastern Photo Engravers and later with Maritime Photo Engravers, before being hired in 1964 to teach graphic techniques, printmaking, and illustration at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD). From 1956 to 1958, Ingrid attended St. Patrick's High School in Halifax and in 1963 she earned a Bachelor of Elementary Education from Mount Saint Vincent University, Halifax. Upon graduating from Mount Saint Vincent, Ingrid spent several years working as a teacher in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, as well as in Burnaby and Vancouver, British Columbia. Following her career as a teacher, she obtained a Masters of Library Studies from Dalhousie University, Halifax, and soon after began working as a librarian at the Morisset Library, University of Ottawa. Ingrid began the arduous task of cataloguing the work of her father not long after he moved from Halifax to Cambridge, Ontario in 1984. She continued this work over the next two decades while also advancing her education, including earning a Masters of Religious Studies at the University of Ottawa. After the death of Siegfried Haase in 1996, Ingrid took on the responsibility of donating the numerous art works that had been left as part of his estate. She completed a detailed catalogue of her father's paintings, prints, drawings, and pottery in 2013.
