Ragnar Kjartansson: The End

18 Jan 2014 - 20 Apr 2014

Winnipeg Art Gallery, Winnipeg, MB

Set among the sublime backdrop of the Canadian Rockies, Icelandic artist and musician Ragnar Kjartansson produced The End with the support of the Banff Centre in Banff, Alberta. In collaboration with Canada’s frontier and fellow Icelandic musician Davíð Þór Jónsson, the artist set out in search of the epic with a collection of musical instruments to create this five-channel video installation, synched together as a single disfigured country music arrangement in the chord of G. The duo parodies notions of the Wild West and the historically romanticized depiction of the artist in the landscape.
