Works by Governor General's Awards Winners on display at the National Gallery of Canada

The Canada Council for the Arts has recently announced the names of the seven laureates of the third annual Governor General's Awards in Visual and Media Arts. The National Gallery of Canada is pleased to celebrate the laureates' achievements in a special exhibition of their works, drawn mainly from the permanent collection. The exhibition will be on view in the Contemporary Galleries from 21 March to 5 May 2002. Admission is free.
A media preview of the exhibition will take place on Wednesday 20 March at 10 am. Kitty Scott, Curator of Contemporary Art, National Gallery of Canada, and the artists will be present and available for interviews.
The laureates for the 2002 Governor General's Awards in Visual and Media Arts are artists AA Bronson, Charles Gagnon, Edward Poitras, David Rokeby, Barbara Steinman and Irene Whittome, and curator, collector and philanthropist Ydessa Hendeles.
This special exhibition of 11 works, including one or more works by each artist, offers a unique opportunity to discover the talents of these men and women who have achieved distinction in their careers in the visual or media arts.
Media representatives and the general public are also invited to attend the official opening of the exhibition, which will take place on 21 March from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm in the Great Hall of the National Gallery.
The Governor General's Awards in Visual and Media Arts are Canada's foremost distinctions for excellence in the visual and media arts. The awards, which are funded and administrated by the Canada Council for the Arts, were presented for the first time in 2000.
