George W. Hill

William Brymner

1918
The son of a marble dealer, George Hill studied in Paris before embarking on a career as a sculptor of public monuments. While not a commission, this bust is one of a group of portraits of presidents of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts donated by the Academy to the National Gallery. The painter William Brymner was President of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts from 1909 to 1917.
