Vimy Ridge

1993
Geoffrey James's photographs record the effects of human activity on the landscape. In "Vimy Ridge", it is difficult to ascertain the scale of the monumental, symmetrical mounds of eroded mine tailings, while the starkly abstract view is difficult to place in either time or space. Natural and economic forces seem to have acted equally to create this vista.
