Eleeshushe Parr
Untitled (Snowmobiles)
c. 1971
Category:
This drawing is both a rare instance of Eleeshushe’s artwork as well as an early case of Inuit art depicting modern subject matter. Some collectors initially resisted signs of acculturation in Inuit art instead focusing on “traditional” themes and depictions of the “old ways.” The first artist to successfully break through this barrier is considered to be Pudlo Pudlat. Eleeshushe’s drawing indicates that Pudlo was not alone in his interest in new technology.
