Untitled (Hey)

Since 2005 David Merritt's "chart drawings" reflect his interest in drawing as a form of mapping. His monumental "untitled (hey)" began with his curiosity regarding what had been "called" by the salutation "hey" in popular song. He explains the drawing as "a single line cast out from the root speech sound that splits and compounds as it moves (left to right as in our alphabet's custom) to its various projected destinations.
