Inspired by the symbolic image of the bed, Betty Goodwin began a series of drawings in 1977 that eventually led her to create this untitled sculpture while an artist-in-residence at Artpark in Lewiston, NY, during the summer of 1978. Within the outdoor natural setting of Artpark, the heavy steel shapes of Goodwin's sculpture, placed on a cliff above the Niagara River, echoed the unstable geology and the riverbed below.
