Charmian Johnson

Untitled

1988
While travelling in 1978, Johnson was hospitalized in Tangier, Morocco. Known primarily as a ceramicist, she turned to drawing during her recovery – inspired by the flowers, plants and architecture around her. In the 1980s and 1990s, the artist travelled often from Vancouver to Hawaii to visit orchid plantations. Rarely working from photographs, she preferred to draw from life.
