Guido Molinari

Two Oranges

1963
In his later "Rhythmic Mutation" series, Guido Molinari created an undulation of colour through the juxtaposition of tone against tone in stripes of equal width. In "Two Oranges" he has arranged colour bands of different widths in an asymmetric composition to create a push/pull effect - certain colours appear to recede while others advance. The same colours are repeated but, flanked by different colours, they are perceived as different hues.
