Pierre Bonnard

The Port of Cannes

1927
In 1926 Bonnard purchased a villa a few kilometres north of the popular resort town of Cannes. The Port of Cannes portrays the waterfront during a period of inclement weather when sailboats are at rest on shore, creating a forest of brown mast poles against an overcast sky.
