Canaletto
The Locks at Dolo
c. 1741
The river Brenta has its source in the Alpine lakes to the north near Trento and flows 50 kilometres through the Veneto past Stra, close to where it is canalised. It is joined by another canal, the Naviglio di Brenta, which runs past Dolo and into the Lagoon of Venice. Canaletto shows the oval basin of the locks of the Brenta Canal at Dolo, where a passenger barge floats moored to the quay.
