Jan Both

Dutch artists frequently travelled to Italy to find inspiration in the landscape. They tended, as here, to feature the gentler landscape forms and warmer light. Jan Both is known to have visited Italy in the late 1630s; prints like this one were almost certainly created on his return to his workshop in the Netherlands.
