The Coil: A History in Four Parts

1988-1993
This work presents "The Coil", an almost-animate, much-travelled, and adaptable length of twine-wrapped cod trap (fish net), with photographs and texts that chronicle several of its many appearances. For the artist, the coil has become a metaphor embracing work, ritual, geography, and her own determination to see the world from a woman's point of view.
