Joseph Cundall

The Alms-House

25 August 1855
During the summer of 1855, Joseph Cundall and Philip Henry Delamotte were commissioned to photograph the buildings at Sackville College in East Grinstead in support of the college's title of deeds documentation. One of Cundall's photographs from this group, titled "The Alms-House", shows the distinctive sandstone brick that was used in much of the Sackville College architecture. The Jacobean-style Alms House was built for Robert Sackville, the Earl of Dorset. This photograph was Cundall's contribution to "The Photographic Album for the Year 1855".
