Arthur Lismer

Stormy Sky

1913
In September 1913 Dr. James MacCallum invited Lismer to his cottage on Georgian Bay. Having emigrated from England only two years earlier, Lismer was immediately enchanted with the rugged landscape, something entirely new to his Canadian experience. In this sketch, his attention is on the blustering sky; he captures the sudden changes in weather that were characteristic of the area.
