Still-life with Crabs

after 1643
From the trailing lemon peel to the projecting plate of crabs, who make eye contact, the objects on this table appear to invade our space. The roemer, a common drinking glass in the 17th century, reflects the window and the world beyond this room. Interior spaces are suggested by the small wooden cheese box and by the large blue chest, which probably contains precious tea.
