Brian Jungen is known for his ability to shift materials into forms resonant with First Nation's motifs. Here a moose hide is stretched over a car hood and placed lightheartedly on a freezer pedestal. The sculptor was intrigued by the construct's resemblance to mid-century modernist forms. Incorporating this skin from his home territory Dane-zaa, in northern BC, " Star/Pointro " presents a newly autobiographical tone. Of the objects he selects he states: "I see certain materials over and over again in my family and on my reserve," he says, "...There's a language in those materials that I think a lot of people - especially in rural Canada - would, could understand."
