Stanley Park Cedar, No. 7

1991
In 1979 Graham made Camera Obscura, a shed-like structure on his uncle’s farm in Abbotsford, British Columbia, that captured through a simple aperture the upside-down image of a tree. Years later, the artist returned to this premise with works such as this upside-down “tree portrait,” posing the question of whether it is the camera lens or our vision that inverts the image.
