In "Der Lauf der Dinge (The Way Things Go)", household and industrial objects appear as active agents in a chain reaction of events involving mechanical and chemical catalysts and the channelling of kinetic energy. Orchestrated by the artists in their studio, the thirty-metre-long set-up is a playful, low-tech, yet impressive spectacle of cause and effect that creates a mounting sense of expectation. The accompanying video, "Making Things Go", presents the studio as a space of experimentation somewhere between a science lab and tinkerer’s workshop, documenting the team’s process of trial and error, determination and ingenuity.
