Scylla (Illustration to Pope's Translation of Homer's "Odyssey", Book XII, line 294)
c. 1792-1794
Ulysses' ship, seen in the lower right corner, successfully sails past Scylla, a fearful monster who has nevertheless seized some of his men. It is possible that both Morning and Scylla are actually repetitions drawn by the artist after the 1793 publication, rather than preparatory studies for it.
