Ruins with Figures at a Fountain

This print contrasts diminuitive figures in contemporary dress with the massive ruins of ancient times. It is a good example of a "capriccio", a popular genre in this period. Ricci's depiction of this imaginary vista combines his Venetian-inspired interest in landscape with the more romantic and rugged character of Salvator Rosa's Neapolitan style.
