Rue Notre-Dame, Dieppe
1902
Walter Sickert’s innovative subject matter and technique made him one of the most influential British artists of the 20th century. From 1898 to 1905 he lived in the port city of Dieppe, France, where he was drawn to architectural subjects. This view of the Rue Notre-Dame with its vista of the church of St. Jacques was the subject of four smaller paintings, as well as etchings.
