Rossport, Lake Superior

c. 1929
On a painting trip with fellow artist Isabel McLaughlin, Housser visited Lake Superior, eight years after Lawren Harris made the region famous. Reminiscing about her trip, she said: “I took off with my sketchbook and paintbox and worked like mad, too exhilarated to remember I was tired. The shapes of the steep roofed houses, the ‘top hat’ silhouettes of some of the offshore islands were coming to life in the ever changing light.”
