Francisco Bayeu

Portrait of a Nobleman

c. 1785-1790
Francisco Bayeu y Subías was favoured by the Spanish court, and in 1795 became the director of the Royal Academy of San Fernando at Madrid. His portraits, few in number, are often mistaken for those of his brother-in-law, Francisco Goya. The sitter in this picture remains unidentified.
