Marc-Aurèle de Foy Suzor-Coté

Port-Blanc in Brittany

1906
Captivated by the coastal village of Brittany, France, Suzor-Coté executed this sensitive study of the nuances of light and colour. As there are no people evident in the scene, the viewer assumes the role of the village’s sole inhabitant. This lack of figures is characteristic of the artist’s landscape paintings, including those made after his return to Quebec in 1908.
