Allan Edson

Mount Orford, Morning

1870
As a young man Allan Edson studied under Duncanson. Edson's "Mount Orford, Morning" owes much to Duncanson's "Owl's Head Mountain" (1864; in this gallery). In particular, the light and the misty atmosphere, the composition of mountain and lake, and the picturesque motifs of the torn tree trunk and abandoned boat reflect his teacher's example.
