Mother and Child

Images of domestic life, such as the intimacy of mother and child, are major themes in Inuit sculpture. While family maintains a central position in Inuit life, some artists and critics express concerns about stereotyping. Does the viewer's familiarity with and the predominance of such classic subjects limit expectations of what Inuit sculpture can or must be?
