In their body of work "1+1-1" (2009), Hadley+Maxwell "unfinished" "One Plus One", Jean-Luc Godard's 1968 film about the Rolling Stones, which was released under the title "Sympathy for the Devil". Shifting focus from the band's cult personalities to the environment of "the studio" as a space for creative process, the Berlin-based duo dissected and translated Godard's film into paintings, prints, sculptures, videos, and props. Projecting the film onto a wall, they used a video camera to zoom in and abstract details that interested them. In the paintings "Brian, Keith, Charlie, Bill, Marianne, Jimmy and Anita, Olympic Studios 1968" and Mick, Olympic Studios 1968", the Stones members and additional vocalists are represented as bands of colour derived from the pixillated dissolution of the projected film. The anthropomorphic "Colour Field Fashion Study I, II and III" evoke band personalities and suggest the rebellious attitude of youth culture as well as the forging of identities through music and fashion.
