Lightwork - Afin de percevoir les choses ...
1972-1976
Category:
This sculpture unites intellectual research (mathematics, physics and philosophy) with sensual execution (light and texture). Challenging our perception, the artificial light from the fluorescent tube on the bottom of the work creates a different, perhaps distorted, viewpoint of a painting within a painting within a box, blending our sensory perception with one more philosophical in nature. Minimalist in composition, the object incorporates a white painting that more or less camouflages the beige, blue and black background. As a measuring instrument, the ruler serves as a metaphor for the ambitions of the rational mind.
