Roelant Roghman

Landscape with a Road and a Coach

unknown
Roelant Roghman was a friend of Rembrandt, and his work in landscape often reveals the influence of that master. He also would have been familiar with the work of his great uncle Roelandt Savery, an important landscape artist represented in this exhibition with one drawing. Roghman is known to have been in the habit of sketching during walks in the country, and many of his drawings are inscribed with the name of the depicted site. The present example may have been made on such an outing.
