In the 1980s, Evergon worked extensively with Polaroid imagery. His oeuvre includes works ranging in size from the small prints collaged together in Duck Over Pierre and Kate and Flowers; through 8 × 10-inch prints such as Homage to the Old Man in Red Turban – The Burning of the Heretics and King Losing His Head – Savage Cats Attack Kingdom, made with a view camera and a Polaroid back; to prints taller than 7 feet (213 cm), created with special cameras the Polaroid Corporation maintained in Boston, New York and Germany. Whether his subjects were inanimate objects or live models, the immediacy of the instant print allowed Evergon a level of spontaneity, control and interaction with his subject matter that was integral to his creative process.
