Kakilisaq Pisukti (The Walker)

"I drew this so that people could see shamans as good because they brought people back to life who were sick. This creature is one of the shaman's protectors. A kind of a dog, but he changes all the time. Kakilisaq are little spiny fish, and this creature has those spines. He is a walker, a wanderer. I made him smiling but with a mask. The moon is smiling at everything below. (There is a song in Inuktitut called "The Sun Is Smiling" - this is the moon smiling!) This was very difficult to draw. I started drawing in the morning and then again in the evening and I drew it again the next day, following my mind." - Simon Shaimaiyuk, 1992
