Sarah Robertson

Joseph and Marie-Louise

c. 1930
Well-known for her landscapes and figure paintings, Robertson was strongly influenced by A.Y. Jackson and Art Deco style. This can be seen here in the flat colour and heavy use of line. A man and his wife stand beside a wayside cross, evoking traditional Quebecois values such as family, connections to the land and religion.
