In 1969 Michael Snow created a mechanical sculpture to hold a film camera and allow it to pan 360 degrees in all directions while recording footage of a rocky and barren Northern Quebec landscape. The resulting film, "La Region Centrale", offered completely unprecedented perceptions of the landscape that rendered familiar territory completely alien. In 2010, the artist created a device to hold a video camera downwards while attached to his truck. "In the Way" records Snow driving in all four directions over gravel roads and varied terrain at his Nova Scotia cottage - routes he has been familiar with almost since the time of filming his 1970-71 masterpiece.
