Imaginary Range

2007
“Between the doorways of this room, thousands have passed, our meandering thoughts escaping before we reach the next room ... but the space above appears empty. I wanted to get inside that inscrutable nothing in a way that could help me visualize where ‘the mind goes'. In my studio, I mapped out a zone of passage like the one here, and began working from its semi-architectural framework, into ever-rounder spaces defined by a loose looping system of thread, built up around myself, always in arms’ reach. Several kilometres of thread passed through my fingers while my mind travelled unmappable paths. Now incorporated into this place, my imaginary travels are invisible, but the evidence is there.” – Karilee Fuglem
