Hollow
1998-1999
Category:
Hollow re-envisions the mythic ideal of nature as provider of the perfect shelter. Moulded from a real tree trunk, the work maintains the original’s detailed texture on its exterior. However, the smooth interior offers a sterilized version of “the natural.” Inside, a sleeping bag suggests that this might be someone’s temporary home, prompting us to imagine circumstances that might lead to our own occupation of the hollow.
