James Wilson Morrice

Fruit Boat, Trinidad

c. 1921
This is a scene from Morrice’s second trip to the Caribbean in 1921. The artist painted a number of Trinidadian canvases after this voyage, including views of Macqueripe Bay seen from the beach. Conversely, in this painting Morrice has situated the viewer out over the water, looking beyond the fruit boat to the sandy shore and vibrant green hills in the distance.
