Daya Dhata became Raja of Nurpur in 1700. His rule was unremarkable except for his interest in the arts. In about 1710 he commissioned from the painter Golu illustrations for "Rasamanjari", a famous poem about love. The paintings are remarkable for using as model for the "nayaka", the lover of the poem, portraits of the Raja Daya Dhata.
