Anne (after Jean-Baptiste Pillement) Allen

Flower Study

c. 1790
Because of the popularity of his prints, the ornamental artist Jean Pillement was much in favour at 18th-century European courts, including those of the King of Poland and of Louis XVI. This draughtsman was particularly celebrated for his decorative flower series and picturesque views in oil or pastel. We know very little about Anne Allen, an artist of English origin, who is only recorded as having created a small set of decorative flowers after Pillement, from which the present examples are taken.
